International Desk: Ahead of a crucial meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukraine and its Western allies have formed a unified position. Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European Union (EU) leaders in a virtual meeting, where the main topic of discussion was a ceasefire in Ukraine.
After the meeting, it was known that President Trump pledged to make the ceasefire a top priority at the Alaska meeting. He warned that if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire, they will face “serious consequences.” Trump also agreed to a follow-up meeting with Putin and Zelensky.

European leaders also expressed their firm position in the talks. Both German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron have confirmed that Ukraine’s presence is essential at any stage of the peace talks. Macron said, “Trump was very clear about the ceasefire in Alaska.”
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also stressed strong security guarantees for Ukraine at the meeting and said that the UK’s support for Ukraine is “unwavering.”
Meanwhile, as Russia prepares for these diplomatic talks, its military offensive in Ukraine continues. Putin has previously demanded that Ukraine withdraw its troops from four partially occupied regions (Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia) and formally withdraw its application for NATO membership as conditions for a ceasefire.
In this context, the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska is expected to play a key role in determining the future of the Ukrainian war.
