The New York City Police Department (NYPD) said that the attacker’s name is Shane Tamura (27). He is a resident of Hawaii but had recently been living in Las Vegas. Tamura entered the lobby of a high-rise building on Park Avenue and started shooting indiscriminately.

One of the victims in the incident was Bangladeshi-American police officer Didarul Islam (36). He had been working in the NYPD for about three and a half years. He has a wife and two children, and his wife is currently pregnant. The death of Didarul Islam, who lives in the Bronx, has cast a shadow of grief over the Bangladeshi community.

In addition to police officer Didarul Islam, three other people were killed. However, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has not yet officially released their identities for the sake of the investigation.

According to various international media sources, the remaining three victims are two men and a woman. After shooting police officer Didarul Islam in the lobby of the Tamura Building, the attacker shot and killed a woman who tried to take shelter there. He then shot a security guard near the elevator and another person in the lobby. Later, he killed another person in the Rudin Management office on the 33rd floor of the building.

Authorities are expected to release the names of the victims only after informing their families. Another person is reportedly receiving treatment in the hospital with serious injuries from the incident.

Shane Tamura
Shane Tamura, who played running back for Granada Hills Charter in California in 2015, was interviewed after the team defeated Kennedy High 35–31.

After the attack, Shane went to the 33rd floor of the Tamura Building and shot himself. A rifle, a revolver and bullets were recovered from his car. Police said Tamura had a history of mental health problems. A suicide note recovered from the scene blamed the National Football League (NFL) for his failings. However, the exact motive for the attack is still unclear and the investigation is ongoing.

The building where the attack took place houses several large corporate offices, including Blackstone and the NFL headquarters. The incident has caused widespread outrage in New York City and has reignited debate over gun laws.
